The Sewing Workshop is an online and brick-and-mortar fabric store in Topeka, Kansas. They cater to home sewists by producing digital and printed sewing patterns, teaching virtual and in-person sewing courses, hosting sewing retreats, and selling fabric and sewing notions. The Sewing Workshop’s current logo tends to look juvenile and incongruent with their adult audience.
For this rebranding project, my aim was to overhaul the current logo, color scheme, and typography, and apply a new one across their website and digital offerings, to merchandise, and to shipping materials—including stickers, tape, and order thank-you notes.
As most of The Sewing Workshop’s brand presence is online, I made sure any new colors provided enough contrast in their intended and allowed usage.
For the logo, I chose two typefaces: an unusual display font and a clear but compelling sans serif. The display font has curls that lead into and out of letters like looping threads. It is complemented and contrasted by the sans serif that has both soft letterforms and interesting points. Together they form a compact yet scalable logo indicative of the business behind it.
